Winter 2009 Meetings 5:00pm ~ 6:30pm Every Wednesday- SSTR 101

The Association of University Meditators (AUM) is a club at UC Irvine which meets weekly to bring knowledge, as well as a community, for the practice of meditation and the development of a spiritual life.

We also offer meditation workshops for housing communities, clubs, and organizations interested in learning about meditation, and how to meditate. Please contact Bernadet Garcia-Silva at bernie@aumuci.org for more information.

Our programs are open to anyone who is interested!

1. This week's topic is "Humor & Spirituality: Laughter Yoga." Don't know what that is? Drop by on Wednesday night (the 4th), SSL 117 at 5pm to find out!

2. We have leadership opportunities available for those who are interested in helping Alley and I run AUM for the remainder of the year (and next year if you can). Let's keep our community strong! Contact me at bernie@aumuci.org if you would like to know more about what you can do.

3. Reminder: Our Third Annual Free Hugs event will be on Friday Feb. 13 from 11am to about 2pm in Anteater Plaza. We will be holding signs up and giving hugs to those who would like one! Let me know if you would like to help write Valentine cards and donate candy to hand out to our fellow anteaters.

4. Circle K would like us to participate in their Kids' Fun Day on February 21st by putting on a Tai Chi performance. Currently we do not have a Tai Chi group, but if you would like to learn Tai Chi and do a small performance in front of kids (on campus), Brian Chang would be more than happy to teach a *dedicated* group. We need at least seven people, email me at bernie@aumuci.org if you would like to learn more about this!

5. Our sitting meditations are still going on every Tuesday in SSTR 102 (social science trailers between SST and Langson Library) from 5:30-6:30pm. These meditations are here to help AUMers develop their personal spirituality and make new friends =]

6. Sunday, February 8th- 10am ~ 2pm: We will be carpooling together to Deer Park Monastery in Escondido for the Sunday Day of Mindfulness/Dharma Talk and lunch. We plan to leave the flagpole area no later than 8:45am! Please RSVP to bernie@aumuci.org if you would like to join us so we can arrange the carpool. If you would like to volunteer to drive, please let me know as well. Please bring a few dollars to split gas and donate to the lunch (which is vegetarian and VERY satisfying!).
